A visit to the dentist may not b the first thing that people want to do but it is very important to have good oral hygiene.
Dentists come in many guises. Here we can see what types of dentists there are and what their roles incorporate.
We all know the pediatric dentist is the dentist that usually cares for the oral well being and treatment of adolescents and kids. But to become a pediatric dentist you must first pass your dentistry degree and then go on for another couple of years to get your pediatric license. You will not be able to practice legally without this license.
People with special care needs would normally visit a special care dentist. These dentists much like the pediatric dentist would first have to pass their dentistry degree but then have another three years of study before they qualify. Their duties would be to care for the oral hygiene and treatment of all special needs cases.
You have probably heard or seen the forensic dentist. This is the one that is usually called to give evidence in legal cases.
Their time is usually spent on examining dental structures and records in the cases where the identity of a person is unknown. They can also give evidence on such things as bite marks in certain malpractice cases.
Those people who are always looking for a more aesthetic appearance to their teeth and mouth would visit a cosmetic dentist. These dentists usually specialize in forming and shaping teeth. They also do teeth bleaching and whitening and general restructuring work.
Elderly people would normally be looked after by geriatric dentists. Their duties involve the prevention and treatment of oral care in the elderly.
Even the animals have their own dentist. This role is filled by the veterinary dentist whose role it is to care for and prevent oral cavities for the animal world.
