California health insurance can be costly if you are on a low income, over 65 and retired, you have a disability, are between jobs, or a college student.
In some cases you may be entitled to various government health insurance schemes such as:
Medicaid: provides cover for low income individuals or those with certain disabilities, who cannot afford health insurance. To qualify you will need to supply evidence of your income and disability if applicable.
Medicare: is for those over 65 who are no longer working, or in some cases under 65 with a disability or with permanent kidney disease. Medicare covers you for hospital stays, nursing and other medical care. In some cases you will need to pay a small premium.
